Class 5
Welcome to Year 5!
In Year 5 this year are Mrs Taylor, Miss Lucas and Miss Power.
We have a very exciting year ahead of us with lots of new things to learn. Please have a look at our school curriculum page to find out what your child will be learning in Year 5 - Ash Grove Curriculum.
We believe that parents play a vital role in their children's success in school, and we ask you to support us by ensuring that children engage with the homework activities on this page.
PE
Our PE days this year are Tuesday (swimming) and Thursday (PE) this half-term. It is important that children have the correct PE kit every week, so we advise that this is kept in school. PE Kit should be either a white t-shirt or Ash Grove PE top with plain black joggers, leggings or shorts. It is also advisable to have a plain black hoodie for cold weather. Children need appropriate footwear for taking part in outdoor PE - this means trainers rather than pumps, especially during the winter months. The children also take part in intra-house competitions at lunchtime, so it’s a good idea to keep a pair of trainers in school at all times.
Swimming will continue to take place on a Tuesday. Children will need to bring their swimming kit to school, including a costume or trunks and a towel. They will be provided with a swimming hat but can use their own if they prefer.
Our Learning
We want to ensure that your child reaches their full potential - emotionally, socially and academically - and we feel that this is best achieved when we work alongside parents and carers. You can find out more about our curriculum by visiting the 'Our Learning' then 'Ash Grove Curriculum' tab of the website.
If you have any questions
If you have any queries, questions or concerns, please speak to a member of staff at the beginning or end of the day or contact us via email. It is often easier for teachers to talk with you at the end of the day.
Reading
Reading is the beating heart of our school and a key skill, opening doors to learning and success throughout a child's lifetime. Opportunities to practise reading greatly help children. Therefore, we ask that you encourage your child to read daily. Whilst in school, children will be reading from a range of high-quality texts from our class Reading Journey texts and will be bringing home texts from the school library to share with you at home.
